Individual Therapy
Individual Therapy via secure HIPAA-compliant video, anywhere in the state of Maryland. Meet with your therapist from the convenience of your home for one-on-one sessions.
Does Online Therapy Work?
The short answer is yes–and it actually has some benefits compared to seeing your therapist in person. Research shows that online therapy is just as effective as face-to-face therapy for most people.
The comfort and safety you feel at home can actually make it easier to talk about sensitive subjects. Of course, you don’t need transportation to see your therapist online, and you don’t have to take time out of your day to get to the therapy office.
If you have a tight schedule, you can plan a session during your lunch hour, or right after school, and don’t have to worry about being late. You can even connect from your car, as long as you find a safe spot to park and let your therapist know your location. Our favorite thing about telehealth therapy is that it means your dog can attend, too.
At Inner Wellbeing therapy, all of our individual therapy and nutritional counseling services are through telehealth. We offer in-person group therapy as an option for those who prefer to meet in person.
What to Expect in Individual Therapy
With individual therapy, you talk one-on-one with a trained professional about your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. You’ll be listened to, centered, and supported, in a safe and nonjudgmental space where everything you share is completely private. The goal of individual therapy is to help you understand and accept yourself and overcome any challenges you may be facing. Those challenges might be anxiety, depression, relationship issues, feeling badly about yourself, or getting through something really difficult that has happened to you.
In your first session, you’ll talk about your reasons for wanting to start therapy, as well as your personal and medical history. You’ll also work together to figure out what your most important goals are for feeling better, and the therapist will come up with a plan of care to help you get there. You’ll have time to ask any questions you need about how therapy works and how it can help you.
During your therapy sessions, your therapist will work with you to explore your feelings, thoughts, experiences, and behaviors. There are a range of techniques and strategies to help you understand and manage your emotions, develop coping skills, and make positive changes in your life. The techniques used will be tailored individually to you. If you’re interested, the therapist may also assign homework or suggest activities for you to practice between sessions.
As you work with your therapist, you will make progress toward feeling better and meeting your goals. It’s important to know that therapy is not a quick fix, and it may take time to see progress. At the same time, the supportive and kind attention of your therapist can start helping you feel better right away. Starting therapy shows your commitment to yourself and your wellbeing. You deserve to feel better and to achieve lasting healing. If you have any questions about therapy, please reach out to us for more information.
